Community Services

The following are the list of services we offer our families:

    • Pay school fees and buying school uniforms
    • Food parcels
    • Home based care with regular homestead visits
    • Educate and assist with issues such as government grants
    • Monthly church service
    • Transport for the sick
    • Distribution of donations such as clothing, blankets, curtains, etc.

Education

Our first priority is getting our orphans educated. Every school has different school fees and a different school uniform. The children are not allowed to attend school unless they have the correct uniform. We have found that when our orphans are dressed in their full uniform, their performance and behaviour improves drastically.

Food Programme

Every family is assessed in detail and categorized according to how desperate they are. All our families are in desperate need. Some families have a small form of income as in government grants, but this income is so minimal that every family needs the extra help of a food parcel. We try as best we can supply these families with varying amounts of stable food to last a month.

Running Costs

This is a crucial factor for IOP to operate and to make a difference. We always aim to keep our running cost less than 20% of our annual funds received. This is a difficult margin as home based care is more costly and fuel is becoming more and more expensive. In order to achieve our long term goals, the team needs to increase dramatically and motivation levels need to be maintained in order to be effective in the work place. This is achieved by team members being  fairly paid for services rendered. It is our hope that organisations would be willing to contribute to this department in the future.

We have an open book policy where anyone is able to view our audited books. Our books are audited by KH Financial Services in Durban. You may contact KH Financial Services directly on +27 31 205 9449.

Daunting Numbers

Our first Orphan Christmas party was held in 2002 with 80 orphans attending. In 2003, we had 150 kids and we schooled 17 in 2004 with the left over funds. That increased steadily over the years. From the beginning of 2012 we have been supporting the 1464 orphan children we have on file, making up 621 families.
