Our Goals

Wednesday, 10 November 2010 09:08

Short-term goals (5 year)

IOP is at present working in 5 regions and want to put a Support Centre in all these regions. At present, our children have to walk long distances to get assistance. If we are close to the communities we will be able to assist with:

  • Homework after school
  • Provide a crèche facility for the younger children who are not schooled yet
  • Provide school uniforms to the children wether it be a project to make them on site or become wholesalers
  • Have an admin office in the community so we can assist with all sorts of queries
  • Provide a lunch time meal to children and sick people so we know that the children can rely on at least one good meal per day
  • Put up a demonstration vegetable garden so to motivate families to start their own gardens
  • Be able to have caregivers come and do projects on site so they can create an income for themselves thus taking them out of poverty
  • Have a mobile clinic come at least once a month to assist with all sorts of medical needs
  • Provide education programs for the children close to their homes
  • Assist with abandoned children temporarily until a family member can be identified who can assist
  • Provide the community with a bible-based church
  • To provide a computer media centre to train the children and community in becoming computer literate

Long-term goals

In the future we would like take the head office away from our home and purchase a farm which has been identified.

Plans for the farm are as follows:

  • Here we would have our head office
  • We would put up permanent cluster homes for orphans
  • We would start doing large scale agricultural projects to sustain orphans and team members and hopefully to sell so IOP may become more self sustaining
  • Have land to do various projects such as Moo-Poo (process and sell kraal manure for
    fertiliser)
  • Be able to do more skills training such as building, welding and agriculture
  • Put up an AIDS hospital for dying people in partnership with Hospice
  • Have a school to provide a great education which will excel the children into tertiary education
  • Provide sports facilities for the children because we know sports brings much joy and is important for all children to be active
  • We would also be a facility for caregivers to create crafts and have a market place to sell fresh produce and crafts because the identified farm is on an up and coming developed road.

Once this has all been achieved we will finally be able to extend the area in which we are working and set up more Support Centres just as in our short term goals. This is important as the system we have developed is basic and effective. We need to keep up with the exponential growing number of orphans and to reach greater areas.

Daunting Numbers

Our first Orphan Christmas party was held in 2002 with 80 orphans attending. In 2003, we had 150 kids and we schooled 17 in 2004 with the left over funds. That increased steadily over the years. From the beginning of 2012 we have been supporting the 1464 orphan children we have on file, making up 621 families.
