Izulu Orphan Projects, IOP, is a non profit organisation which support orphans and children of HIV positive widows. We use an Orphan Management Computer System to assist via home based care through caregivers. Founded in 2006 by Chadd, Kate and Shelley Bain, the organisation was created to serve thousands of orphans, starting in Zululand, Kwa-Zulu Natal. Our aim is to school, feed and clothe as many orphan children as possible and to impact the local community through education, health awareness and job creation.
In 2012, we are supporting 1460 orphans in 621 families.
Our focus is:

Why is IOP so effective
IOP is based on the border of the Kwa-Zulu tribal lands. This is where founder Chadd Bain lived his whole life. For years he had been building excellent relationships with the surrounding communities and ruling tribal authorities. He was well known and trusted up until his passing away in December 2009. Chadd was a keen adventurer and was very familiar with the area into which he worked. Kate Bain and her team have continued their work.
We have thousands of supported orphans and have designed a system that works in keeping track of all our families. After interviewing and accessing each child, they are taken home where a full living assessment is done along with the recording of the GPS co-ordinates of their homesteads. This way, we are able to plot routes, keeping us efficient, and we have fully assessed the need making us effective.
IOP works with between 35 and 40 schools. The principals of these schools know that IOP is responsible for all their orphans and they keep IOP informed of any misbehaviour. In this way, IOP is sure that their orphans are disciplined and protected.
Every family is GPS'd, given an IOP number and assessed on need:
Since we became official in June 2006, the corporate market is able to donate us 10% of their taxable income as we have our Section 18a status. In order for us to try make a difference we are needing business and communities to come aboard and join the IOP family.
