NB: Annual Orphan Christmas Party
The most exciting time of the year for our orphans is approaching and we desperately needing everyone. This is most definitely the highlight of the year for everyone involved and this year it will be bigger then ever.

Our Annual Orphan Christmas Party will be held on the 8th and 9th December 2012. We will be catering for 3500 orphans and Gogos who will be divided up over 3 parties. On the 8th December there will be 2 parties at once, each with 1150 people attending. The scary thing is that means we need DOUBLE THE AMOUNT OF VOLUNTEERS then ever before! And especially everyone who has helped out before and who has an idea of how the day works.

These are huge events to pull off and so much admin happens in the background during these parties, which is crucial to the success of us being able to support and take on even more orphans in 2013. We need as many hands as we can get so please bring everyone you know. On the 8th December we will need 500 volunteers, and we will need 250 on the 9th December – CALLING ONE AND ALL!!

The day of the party is as follows:
08h00 - 09h00 Volunteers arrive and register and get to work
10h00 - 11h00 Busses arrive and orphan registration
11h00 - 12h30 The meaning of Christmas and entertainment
12h30 - 14h30 Handing out of food and presents
14h30 - 15h00 Busses take orphans home and volunteers clean up and prepare for the next day.
We like to give every child a Christmas present, as this is the only one that most of them will receive. We also like to spoil the grandmothers, Gogos, who are the champions in caring for this orphaned generation, their grandchildren. These are the following age groups and the amount of gifts that are needed:

Ages Boys Girls
1-6 150 150
7-14 725 725
15+ 550 550
Gogos 650

We like to give every child and Gogo a meal and a party pack. That means we will need:

  • 7000 hotdog rolls
  • 7000 Vienna sausages
  • Tomato sauce
  • 3500 cool drinks
  • 3500 Party packs!! - Party packs include chips, fizzer, sucker and sweeties.
  • An absolute necessity are the busses to collect all the orphans and their old Gogos from the surrounding communities as we cover 1200 square kilometres, which is too far for most to walk. We will need 8 busses on Saturday and 5 on Sunday. The total for this will be R 39 000.
  • The other important items are the Non-Flush portable toilets. We will need for both venues this year, which will be 13 toilets in all. This will be R 3500.
  • Anyone wanting to donate from Durban, please call my mother, Heather Ellens, on 031-207 4958 or 082 779 3443 as she acts as our Durban storehouse manager, love my mom J!
  • This is our only fundraiser of the year and the left over funds raised are what we use to buy the uniforms for our orphans in January.
